Just to test colour schemes I tried out texturing my scenes with block colours (All renders at max quality and 720p):
The original scene before colouring:
First attempt, obviously the colours are too bright and vibrant for the mood of this scene:
Second attempt was a lot more successful. Subtle, darker colours are best for the scene:
